Every year the foreign guests are welcomed into
the homes of host families
who live in the region North Groningen.
Since 1966 the number of host families has grown. It is of course not
possible for Warffum, with it’s 2500 inhabitants and 900 houses to
accommodate all the foreign guests. That is why there are many villages in
the region that accommodate the dance groups. In total about 550 beds are
needed. The members of the group don’t only get accommodation from these
families they also get all their meals from them. Many host families have
been accommodating - as a volunteer - foreign guests for 30 years or more. There are
approximately 250/275 host families spread out over 22 villages.
These 22 villages are in the next 4 communities in North Groningen:

|
Eemsmond: |
Warffum, Usquert, Uithuizen,
Uithuizermeeden, Roodeschool, Oosteinde, Oudeschip, Kantens, Rottum, Zandeweer,
Eppenhuizen, Stitswerd. |
|
De Marne:
|
Pieterburen,
Westernieland, Saaksumhuizen. |
|
Winsum: |
Winsum, Baflo, Den Andel. |
|
Loppersum:
|
Middelstum, Toornwerd,
Garsthuizen, Westeremden. |

The best way to arrange the transport by bus to and from the
villages to the dance stage is to let everyone from one group stay in the
same village, for example dance group A stays in Usquert and dance group B
in Middelstum, dance group C in Baflo and so on.
The guests will be picked up in their village in the morning and after the
dance performance in Warffum (Op Roakeldais Events Hall) they will be brought back
to a central point in their village. Staying with the host
families is always in a atmosphere of friendship and often proves to be of a durable
nature.
This kind of accommodation forms a substantial contribution to developing
mutual understanding, fraternisation and friendship. |
