KOBUZARU

KOBUZARU has its roots within Japan’s university culture and is affiliated with Fukuoka University. The group was founded in 2005 and grew from a student initiative into an official taiko club within the university, with the goal of keeping the traditional Japanese drumming art alive and passing it on to new generations.

Within this university context, not only performance is central, but also discipline, collaboration, and personal development. Students train intensively and often daily to achieve a high level of taiko. This dedication is reflected in their powerful and synchronized performances.

What makes KOBUZARU special is that they are part of a broader Japanese tradition in which universities play an important role in preserving and renewing cultural art forms such as taiko. Like other Japanese student groups, they combine studies with artistic development and international exchange.

Additionally, KOBUZARU actively works to make Japanese culture accessible to a wider audience. Thus, they not only perform at festivals and major events, but also give workshops and interactive performances for younger generations, for example at schools and in the local community.
